Booklet Progress: Project 3 Pattern Completed

Ok, so I'm definitely behind in our installments on the progress of the new booklet. I am going to chalk that up to wanting to write as many patterns as possible before the holidays, and not budgeting any time to blog about them. Oops. So if you really like to keep track at home, I actually have half the of the projects written and being worked on right now. I am hoping to pop one more out before the holiday festivus* starts. But who knows.

Project 3: Cropped Jacket

Pattern Complete, Sample in progress

1. Why did you choose this project for your booklet?
I love cardigans. Small. Large. Cropped. Oversized. I love them all. I find myself gravitating to a different cardigan every day. I especially like them, because I also love tunic tops. And for a bigger gal like me, a cropped cardi and tunic top are like PB&J. Cropped tops (like this one) show off your waist and the tunic still hides your tummy. So naturally, I wanted one in the booklet. The one in the booklet has a wide ribbing at the waist to draw your eye to your narrow part, and an offset closure- just b.c I liked it in my sketch.

2. What drew you to this crochet stitch/square?
I was looking for a textured pattern again. It needed to be able to drape and be pretty simple to get the hang of. This stitch really isn't all that wonderus, but it spoke to me. Its your basic spike stitch, but to help keep down the bulk you ch instead of st in the row below your spike. Smart and effect The ribbing is going to be the theme in this booklet, and I'll talk more on that in another project.

3. Did any of the project change while you were writing?
Nothing in this project changed, which is not that that unusual for me. I have a 50/50 track record. The only change was the line-up of me writing it. I actually had this slated to be designed in late January; but due to some yarn being backordered. I moved this one up in the line-up. Got to be flexible.

4. What inspired the color choice?
The color is the color in the swatch here. That soft blue -gray. Generally my favorite**. I nearly design all projects in this color, then have to force myself to think out of my box and pick another one. Not this time. I like the slate. I see wood buttons contrasting beautifully, don't you?

5. What is your goal with this project?
The main goal with this project was to create a semi quick project for an intermediate crocheter. The way I see it is that intermediate crocheters usually get long patterns or boring short ones. That's why I picked something they could bang out fairly quickly (like in a few weeks). I can also see this as the stepping stone for an advanced beginner to try to branch out and try a new skill. We'll see what my cousin thinks, since she is helping me crochet it. Who knows, maybe its a stinker and I don't even know it- since I am in love with the color.

Stay tuned to see the sneak peek to see how the project came out.

*What's a holiday festivus? That's our now annual trek home to mecca (aka Allentown) to visit all my family in 2 days, which is a feat in and of itself; since my family (not including and Aunts and Uncles/ Cousins) is huge and spread over many houses. We celebrate whatever holiday / event we have missed since we saw each other. Like this year will be meeting my new niece, birthdays, structurally evaluating a building for my dad, oh and celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah of course.

**Funny that it is my favorite, since I really look much better in green. But 80% of what I own is this slate blue.
