Project 6: Complete (Almost)

Next up on our journey in my progress on the new booklet is a trendy project that I think will be great for any teenager or teenager at heart on your list

Project 6: Vest Tunic

Pattern Complete, Sample almost finished (just need to sew on the buttons)

1. Why did you choose this project for your booklet?
As you all know, I am approaching this booklet as a magazine. So I wanted a variety of projects, and at least something for everyone in your family. This project I see as being the project for the teenager in your life. Its a quick tunic length vest that is great for layering. The lacy stitches go quickly so you can feel good for making your teenager something and actually get it to her before its not cool anymore.

2. What drew you to this crochet stitch/square?
I was looking for a stitch pattern that was interesting. Something with a WOW factor to it. The shell pattern look really complex and intricate which I love, but in the end its only 2 rounds that you repeat over and over again. And I can tell you first hand its really easy to memorize, since I crocheted the entire vest in a car ride home. (about 8hrs)

3. Did any of the project change while you were writing?
The main thing that changed was the neck line. I was originally planning on doing a V neck. But once I started in on crocheting it, and thinking about the pattern writing- I realized a rounded neck will be so much easier to explain. I really like the way it turned out so I am happy with the decision.

4. What inspired this project?
Layering and Abercrombie & Fitch. So I will admit that I am no expert on what teenagers like to wear. All I have to go on is my nieces and what I see at the mall. (So if you see me staring at you- yes I am doing research to find out what you like to buy and wear.) Layering is still super popular with teenagers, which is great for crochet. I love the look of the lace and how a print shirt pops under it.

5. What is your goal with this project?
The main goal with this project was to create a quick project that your teenager might actually wear (and hopefully crochet for themselves). The construction is in the round from the bottom up, so you can try it on as you go which is great for those alterations. The lacy tunic compliments tons of tops, and the cute buckles at the sides accentuate the waist.

Stay tuned to see more projects from the booklet.
