ISO: New York Yarn Store

Hey Gang- I was hoping you guys could help me out. My mom, cousin, and I are planning a girls weekend in New York City for my Aunt. She and I share our passion for fiber, so I am in charge of a mini- yarn crawl. Do you guys have any recommendations of places we should definitely go? We are looking for stores that inspire you by their colors, and stores that are friendly to bi-textural people like us (aka. knitting snobs need not apply), and stores that are so neat that we really can't miss. Thanks!

School Products 1201 Broadway Suite 301 (between 28th & 29th)
has yummy designer overruns...we're talking bulky or laceweight cashmeres.

Habu has the most amazing selection of unusual yarns..think yarn made of old Japanese fishing nets (sounds awful, but it's not), stainless steel, all sorts of things. I think it is 135 or 153 E. 29th St.

You won't find these yarns in your LYS.

Not unless it is really progressive.

I agree with tt about school products. They are one of my favorite stores. My other favorite is Knitty City. I think they're on 79th & broadway but please don't quote me on that. I'm a sucker for sock yarns and they have a nice selection.

The last time I was in NYC, a friend of mine took me to Downtown Yarns. The people were nice and the screen door was a selling point for me.

I'm a big fan of Purl (see www.purlsoho.com).

Sticks and strings - Scarsdale, NY - Scarsdale is such a quaint little town and its beautiful. The ladies in the yarnshop are so friendly and helpful. Lots for crocheters - that's what I was shopping for - great house yarns. http://www.sticksandstringsknitting.com/ Enjoy!

Hey there! I have quite a comprehensive list in a yahoo group of which I am a member. I have it as a word perfect file, however I lost a bit of the formatting, but the information is there. Is there an email addy to which I shall send it?
