Knit and Crochet Today Giveaway!

Thanks to the wonderful Candi Jensen, KCT producer and my personal crochet mentor, I am going to host a little giveaway this week.

I have a copy of both Season 2 A and B DVD's of Knit and Crochet Today to giveaway to one lucky reader. That's 26 episodes of our PBS Show, plus all the patterns.

How to enter?

Leave a comment or email me one thing you would like to see on the show. It could be a technique we haven't covered. It could be a person we haven't interviewed. It could be a pattern we haven't broken down. It can even be really specific, like "I'd like to see a Drew and Robyn crochet marathon." or "I'd like to see Drew where more crochet fashion" Or "I'd like to see how Brett really walks around on those crazy platforms Robyn talked about". Basically any suggestion for future seasons. I am going to be tricky, and disqualify any suggestion that we have already covered on the show. I want these DVD's to go to a fan, so I want real suggestions from real watchers.

I'll choose my favorite and send you both DVD's, but I'll post my top 5 on the blog. I'll collate all the suggestions and send them to Candi. Who knows we might take your advice and you will be able to see your comments being put into action on a future episode!

So leave a suggestion by Monday April 13th. I'll announce the winner on Friday April 17th. Besure to leave your email address or some way of getting a hold of you in your suggestion, so I have a way to contact you.

I would really like to Ellen Gormley on the Show! She always does a great job explaining crochet ideas to me!

I'd like to see some ideas for using slip stitch crochet.

I'd like to see some crochet examples that use multiple strands of crochet thread held together and/or a strand of crochet thread held together as a carrying thread/yarn (maybe with a sport/DK weight).

I like the idea of using relatively inexpensive threads that come in a great variety of colorways that lend themselves to good drape without the project being a tedious doily made with a bitty steel hook.

We don't get the show in our area but, in case you haven't done it...I'd love to see a show on Freeform crochet starring Prudence Mapstone, Margaret Hubert and Myra Wood; maybe even Valentina Devine.

I'd like to see 3-d crochet examples, all the lovely and amazing freeform styles. It would be great to see them from various angles as I've only seen them in photos. And I'd like to see Tunisian Crochet and what else can be done with Loom Knitting besides hats and scarves and afghans.
Also, you haven't been interviewed or Nicky Epstein (not that I know of any way)and I would love to hear from sock designer Cookie A!
And maybe introduce some well know Podcasters (like Lime & Violet) or some well know knit/crochet bloggers

And believe it or not, I'm in Vancouver, Canada and I have to watch it on the ~Detroit~ PBS station - well I have to tape it because it's on at 4am!

It would be great to have Carol Ventura on your show and see some examples of tapestry crochet

So many ideas!

Well, as some people mentioned, I guess I'd really like to see some freeform crochet, more along the lines of what some people call "scrumbling."

Or something about what to do with all the scraps we accumulate! I have so many scrap afghan books, but I still never have enough yarn to make a whole afghan out of those patterns, and I'd like to make more than ugly hats.

And what if, instead of interviewing well-known people (who are very interesting in and of themselves), you could feature some up-and-coming designers? There are so many great people on ravelry who design amazing things, and I'm sure most of them would be modest - but I always love the features on etsy that tell you how they began, how they learned what to do... etc.

And what about broomstick lace? I know you've shown how to do hairpin lace (which made me go out and do it myself - I get so many compliments on stuff I've done!), but I've heard some interesting things about broomstick lace, too.

K, I kinda went a little crazy. But my fiance can attest to the fact I come home and watch this show way too much while I knit or crochet.

I took a look at the show descriptions (we don't get it in our area) and it looks like there hasn't been much coverage of knitting and crocheting with recycled/upcycled materials.

I would like to see shows on designing shawls, I love some of the circular doily patterns and would love to learn how to adapt something to a shawl.

I would love to see an episode dedicated to finishing our objects, particularly garments, and which elevate our art beyond the ugly step-sister role. Such finishing touches would be buttonholes, edges, seaming, etc.

Another bid for using the show to educate would be to talk about yarn in terms of how different yarns (weights, fiber, texture) serve different uses.

I would like to see a show dedicated to charity knitting and crochet. And I know they already did it on Knitty Gritty but Im a huge fan of the Motherbear project and wouldn't mind of the got some more attention too:)

I want to see some speed knitting and crocheting. Have some champions on who can show us what it looks like. I have never seen it done. Also some broomstick crochet would be a neat tutorial. It's so pretty yet so rarely used.

I just wanted to add to my other post that it didnt need to be that particular charity I just happen to support them and used them as an example. Another charity accepting knit and crocheted toys is http://www.icross.ca/pattern.htm I know they would really appreciate the support too :)

How about some artwork? Wall hangings and framed art. Some filet crochet patterns(new ones for framing)?

What a nice opportunity! I'd love to see some Tunisian crochet, tapestry crochet, broomstick crochet, and hairpin crochet.

I'm also interested in crocheting socks.

Thanks!
Maria

Another one that I just thought of - what about double-ended tunisian crochet - I don't know what type of technique is called but I always see double ended crochet hooks (on a loop, like circular knitting needles) and I've never found patterns or directions on how to use these!

I'd love to see unusual stitches and tricks. Different starting methods, chainless turns, linked stitches, etc. Those are the little kinds of things that I love. Things that really finish a piece of work nicely and that a crocheter can apply to all sorts of different projects.

Information about guilds would be cool. I learned about TNNA and CGOA from features on KCT and Needle Arts Studio. I'd love to hear more about what the CGOA, TNNA, and TKGA are, how they started, and the history of what makes guilds important for all crafts.

I think more crocheters need to know how awesome it is to join a local crochet guild meeting, since it's the only time I've walked into a room of yarn crafters crocheting instead of knitting.

I'm behind on K&C Today, but if it hasn't been done I'd love to see an interview with "Jimbo" http://jimbosfrontporch.blogspot.com
and see how he makes those gorgeous hand made crochet hooks!

I am a fan of the technical side of knitting and crocheting. Not only do I like knowing how to do something, I also like to know why.

I think you should bring an expert like Lucy Neatby or the TECHknitter on the show.

As suggested by my 12yo DD, we'd love to see shows oriented towards younger fiber artists.

I would love to see other materials besides yarn to work with, like cloth or rope or others that i cant even think of.

Hi! Well, I love you designs, so working on any of your items would be great. I think it'd be great to explain types of yarn and what works best for garments, blankets, baby items, purses, etc. I crochet and I like to use sport weight yarn for sweaters and tops. I don't knit so I don't know what yarns work best for different items. Thanks!

I know others have made similar posts but I would like to see shows regarding new ideas in materials being used. I am amazed by the variety of materials people can crochet/knit with.

I would love to see new ideas for filet crochet patterns. I love to make them but haven't seen much new out there.

Thanks for the great opportunity to give some input.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I would like to see more using "true" scraps. So many call for skeins...I want to get rid of all my partials out there....maybe a bit on how to use all the different colors so that it doesn't look like my scrap bag didn't just throw up. Magic ball. How to adjust a pattern so that it fits you better.

I love K&CT! My suggestion for season 3 would be crocheting with wire to make jewerly. Also, more in depth information on how a novice a start the design process with differnt fiber artist telling their process.

a simple pattern for a top down stitched bolero would be great. I am stitching up the crystal lace bolero, but it came out much larger than anticipated...now it will be mom's for mother's day :-)

I would love to see patterns for clothes that can be done all in one piece.

Also, the craze of Japanese pattern books, possibly an episode explaining that you can read the charts without having to understand the language. Or even an interview with some of these Japanese artist, like the authors that get the collaboration for Amigurumi Collection.

I would love to see more info on upcycling projects. Great patterns for using recycled tees, old denim for rugs (http://newoldfashionedgal.wordpress.com/2007/11/14/how-to-make-beccas-jean-rag-rug/), or imaginative plastic bag uses. I'd like to be able to use these scraps and not have the FO look like I used scraps.

I would also like to see mother/daughter projects.
