It's also the reason why gardeners recommend that you mulch under the branchline, rather than grow grass right up to the trunk.
Personally I never water the lawn and only water new plants in my garden, and only when it's very dry, until they are established. I admit that I do water trees when they are visibly suffering. (I've only seen this happen to young trees in my yard.)normanackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08707300881593408811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20658369.post-27991111598534890632007-08-08T21:28:00.000-04:002007-08-08T21:28:00.000-04:00I thought the same thing as Julie. The roots go too deep.
I love your patterns.
(Going back to lurking now.)Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01998195171644867903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20658369.post-6942916554252563362007-08-08T18:49:00.000-04:002007-08-08T18:49:00.000-04:00Seems pretty futile to water such a large tree. One day she saw a man ripping off the yellow ribbon she had tied around it. She ran out asking him what he thought he was doing and the man said that the ribbon was killing the tree. When he ripped it off you could see the indentation. We thought it was funny because we always wondered why the tree was suffering but never thought about it actually choking.Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06669631667559623828noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20658369.post-26767124640067391432007-08-08T16:40:00.000-04:002007-08-08T16:40:00.000-04:00TOTALLY weird.
